Gosh you'd get called an apostate if you put that on your page. Even though it's true.

People who pioneer on government assistance
by ilikecheese ini had a chat with my boyfriend about this, and he said that he knows quite a few pioneers who are capable of working but prefer to pioneer with government assistance.
his thought was, "well, it's kind of bad, but at least they're doing something useful/good with their time.
" i know from reading this board that it's a pretty widespread thing.

There's a scripture somewhere saying that they'll 'feed on kings of nations' or something like that. Maybe that's how they justify leeching off us taxpayers.

Kingdom Hall Spankings
by JH inmost meetings i went to, children were brought to the washrooms in the back to be disciplined.
often i could hear a child yell or cry due to the spanking given by the parent.
people in the hall would have that look on their face meaning that it was alright to discipline a child by spanking him.

What country do you who got beaten black and blue or saw kids getting hit with shoes and paddles live in? In Australia, I've observed most parents bring toys and blankets for young children, and they generally nap on the floor during meetings. Primary aged kids generally colour in and teens just slump boredly and hang out at the drink fountain. The times I've seen kids taken out is usually to calm them by holding and bouncing, or taking them out to eat or rest. Occasionally I saw a kid get a swat but mostly just settled down with a,little cuddle, talking to or short walk. Maybe Australian JWs r more lax, by it is also against the law here to hit kids, and most people really frown upon it.

Were You Ever Interrogated By The Elders?
by minimus insome elders enjoy giving the business to the lowly flock thru intimidation.
.
some love to ask you to enter with them into the "backroom".. of course, there were many that never had run-ins with the shepherds because they were under the radar.. did you ever get interrogatted by the elders and if so, how did it go??

Yep. Been back roomed a few times but the real interrogation happened when I started to have doubts. I'll post the link into this thread later when I'm at my computer. It was a real doozy.

In many, the less educated you were the better you were regarded. I knew of some who reveled in their ignorance like it was a badge of spirituality. People would brag that they'd never read anything not published by the wt. I'd go to ppl's houses and find nothing on the book shelf except Jw books. Those were usually the sort who would ask me how I knew so much and is
I'd say, 'Well, I read books...'

I'm partly with Caleb. The new bulldust will stumble some of the smarter ones or plant seeds of doubt like the 1995 thing did and have an effect, but I don't think it will cause a mass exodus. The 1995 thing wasn't felt til years later, and I think this one will be the same.

" remember, the more lowly your job = the more highly regarded you were in the hall. Anyone who had a half way decent job was viewed with suspicion. " I hear ya. I was a teacher in a country town. Half the congregation thought I was satanic.
Hey Pickler, do you live in Australia? 14 and 9 months was the age here. In Queensland now I'm not sure what the age is, but you have to be 'earning or learning' until the age of 17 before you can qualify for any government assistance.
Funny about the window washers/casual retail-type job holders. What do they do when they have families? Either bludge off the government child care benefit or work to death. I know a sister who hadn't worked since she had her first kid at 19 and had her husband work 7 days a week to support the family in a newish rental house. She wanted a bedroom for each of the three children in new estate, rather than an older house and having the kids share. So the poor hubby had to work 7 days at his low paying job. So marry a hard working man! That's the way.
I lucked out on that one. I earn more than my husband.

The Experts- Jehovahs Witnesses
by jean-luc picard ini was thinking this weekend of a brother i first met when i was a teenager.. not yet an elder, this brother was very outspoken, and was viewed a kind of hero to the r&f.. an inexperienced teen, i also believed ( influenced by others) that this guy was a godsend.. looking back, with the eyes of a more mature person, i now consider him an arrogant self opinionated bully.. he later became an elder and i might add that he also had an imposing physical appearance .
but he had no education.
no schooling.

What about all those times you went without? Did Jehovah provide then? While I believe in a higher power, even Jesus, I still believe we have to feather our own nests in that we must prepare for the future.
@ Pickler: Humility is not a common trait among JWs. The WT pays lip service to it while telling its adherents that they are the most privileged people in the world to be the only ones to have 'the truth'. Humility is only called upon when telling the followers to be more obedient and not make waves.
